Do your actions align with your aspirations?

It’s 10:16pm.  I’ve had a full day.  I’m tired and am more than ready to call it a day.  But the day quickly filled with work and house projects and I never got around to my writing.  And I really want to give this whole writing everyday goal a solid shot.  Not just when I feel like it or when it’s convenient or when it comes easily but every single day no matter what.  We’re so conditioned to choose the easy route or the option that feels good that we forget how rewarding it can be to really work at something.  To hone a skill over time. And I can’t think of a better way to hone a skill than to practice it everyday.

Just as I was getting ready to throw in the towel tonight and go to bed, I remembered one of my favorite quotes:

“ACTION EXPRESSES PRIORITIES” -GANDHI

It is so damn easy to say to yourself “give yourself a break, you can do it tomorrow”.  Then tomorrow comes around and a new excuse pops up.  Tomorrow becomes next week, next week becomes next month and before you know it, that thing that you think is important to you hasn’t happened.  If something truly matters to you, you’ll FIND time to make it happen.

There will always and forever be excuses to put off your goals and aspirations.  There will always and forever be distractions and things we think we need to do instead.  But it’s okay to let certain areas of our life be imperfect in an effort to go after something bigger.

If you want to change your life or chase a dream, ask yourself if your actions are in line with your aspirations.  If not, recalibrate.  Realign your priorities so that your dreams don’t only exist in your imagination.  If there’s something you want to do so badly that you can’t stop thinking about it, turn your thoughts in to action.  Let the action become momentum and watch your wildest dreams begin to take shape.
